Italian football club AC Milan Thursday announced that its Colombian defender Cristian Zapata has been sidelined after suffering a fractured bone in his right foot.
The 29-year-old suffered the injury in the final minutes of Milan's 2-1 Italian Cup last 16 win over Sassuolo Tuesday and is expected to be out for several weeks, reports Xinhua.
"AC Milan communicates that in the final minutes of Milan-Sassuolo, Cristian Zapata, following a challenge with another player, suffered a bone fracture at the base of the second metatarsal in his right foot," Milan said.
AC Milan sit eighth in Italian Serie A. It will face Lazio in the quarterfinals of the Cup later this month.
