An eight-year-old girl was raped and then murdered in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh district, police said Saturday.
According to police, the body of the girl was found in a forested area Saturday afternoon near Arnod town in the district, some 400 km from Jaipur.
Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhagwat Meena said the girl was last seen around 4 p.m. Friday with Prahlad Kumar, a resident of the same village near Arnod to which the girl belonged.
"The family members kept searching for the girl throughout the night and today (Saturday). Some passers-by saw the girl's body in a necked condition lying in a forest area and informed police," he said.
He added that the girl had been raped and then strangulated to death.
"A search has been launched for the accused man who is on the run," said the officer.
