Miscreants throw acid on woman corporator in UP

A woman corporator was Friday seriously injured when local goons here threw acid on her, police said.

A case has been registered against five persons, an official said while informing media that the musclemen had threatened to burn the corporator alive earlier this week. Muskan Devi is a corporator from Para in the city and runs a grocery shop with her husband in the area.

Sita Ram Kashyap, father-in-law of the injured corporator told the police that a few days ago some local goons had come to their shop and tried to force Muskan Devi into giving them some groceries on credit.

When she refused, they started to heckle them and threatened to burn her alive. With locals rushing to her rescue, the goons beat a hasty retreat.

They, however, again came to her house with a bottle full of acid and threw it on her inside the house. The accused have been identified as Amar Singh, Happa, Sunder, Ram Das and Arvind.

The woman corporator has been admitted to a local medical facility where her condition is said to be serious but out of danger.
