Six people have been arrested for stealing a consignment of 600 high-end mobile phones worth Rs.1 crore from the cargo hub at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), police said on Monday.

"The mobile phones were stolen from the airport's cargo hub. We have recovered 209 mobile phones out of the stolen 600," Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGIA) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said.

He said some of the stolen mobile phones were sold to people across India through online retail store Flipkart, which makes the matter more complicated.

Raju Singh, 31, Sunil Jain, 40, Gaurav Mittal, 44, Jitender Girotra, 28, Harender Singh, 42, and Ravi, 26, were arrested from different places last week.

Following a police complaint filed in July by Dhananjay Pratap, an employee of SVS Logistics Company, police took action and managed to catch the culprits.

"There was a complaint that Pratap's shipment of 1,500 mobile phones was to be delivered to NPS Telecom Pvt. Ltd. in Okhla through custom agent, when one of the pallets carrying 600 phones was stolen," said the official.

"We managed to catch one of the culprits, after which the other accused were also arrested," he said.

According to the official, the mastermind, Narender, who drives vehicles at the cargo terminal, was on the run.
