Modi assures full support to AMU

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thurday assured full financial support to the Aligarh Muslim University, a statement said.

The prime minister made the assurance to a delegation from AMU, led by its Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (retd.) and including MP Mohammad Taslimuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali (retd.), when they met him at the parliament house, a varsity statement said.

Lt.Gen. Shah submitted a written memorandum, highlighting the issue of "inequitable funding" for AMU compared to other central varsities and sought immediate funding for construction of permanent buildings at the three AMU Centres in Malappuram, Kerala, Murshidabad, West Bengal and Kishanganj, Bihar.

Highlighting AMU's recent achievements, he told Modi that it was "leading in the field of nanotechnology with an objective of ushering the second green revolution in the country". AMU scientists were actively involved in the Clean Ganga and Yamuna projects, he added.
