Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday interacted with Directors General and Inspectors General of Police from across the country at their annual conference being held at Kevadia in the state and held discussions on specific security and policing issues.
The conference is being held at a tent city set up near the newly-unveiled statue of the country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the Statue of Unity.
An official press release said he witnessed presentations and discussions on various subjects relating to security which were held through the day.
"Over meals, he held discussions with select groups of officers on specific security and policing issues," it said. The discussions will continue on Saturday.
Modi will release a commemorative stamp on National Police Memorial and launch the portal of Cyber Coordination Centre. He will present President's Police Medals for distinguished service to IB officers and address the gathering.
At the Statue of Unity, he witnessed a vibrant parade, featuring various police and paramilitary forces, which showcased the theme of "Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat" and also paid floral tributes to Patel.
He tweeted about his visit to the conference venue and urged people to visit the world's tallest statue which was unveiled on October 31.
Modi said Patel's contribution towards building the framework of the nation's security system is immense.
"I would specially urge you all to visit Kevadia and see the Statue of Unity. Some friends told me that the statue can also be seen during Delhi-Mumbai flights. So, next time you are flying on that route, do try to spot the statue"," he said in a tweet.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the three-day conference on Thursday.
