Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met a young man who has covered 4,500 km across eight states on his cycle, talking to people in nearly 5,000 villages and 350 towns about the Clean India programme.

Modi received Abhishek Kumar Sharma at his office and complimented him on his unique mission, said an official statement.

Sharma said he was inspired by the prime minister's call for Clean India. That, he said, inspired him to undertake the cycle tour of India.

Sharma plans to devote an entire year to the cause talking to people on the subject of cleanliness.
