Modi questions Mamata's attitude towards rapists

Questioning the attitude of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee towards rapists, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Wednesday also said the Saradha scam was a raw nerve for her.

Addressing successive rallies in Krishnanagar in Nadia district and later in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district, Modi hit out at the Banerjee regime for the rising crime against women in the state.

"Didi (Banerjee), you are a tigress, but the country wants to know why women are falling victims to crime, why Bengal is one of the leading states in the country when it comes to crime against women," he asked.

"One after the other incident of rapes are happening. You are a woman, so how can you tolerate attacks on a woman," said Modi as he went on to question Banerjee's attitude towards criminals.

"Is Didi's attitude towards the rapists and the crimes appropriate? Does she have the same amount of anger for them as she has for Modi?" he asked the crowd which reciprocated with a deafening "no".

Modi, whose remarks regarding a Banerjee's painting fetching in excess of Rs. 1.80 crore had resulted into a war of words between his Bharatiya Janata Party and Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, again broached the Saradha chit fund scam issue.

"I don't know why Mamata gets an electric shock whenever I talk about Saradha. AI can understand those involved in the scam getting angry at me," said Modi as he called for jailing all those involved in the scam and returning the money involved in the scam to the poor investors.

He also raised the issue of alleged irregularities in the appointment of primary school teachers and claimed that if the BJP came to power, it will get India and Bengal rid of scams.
