Mohun Bagan produced a strong performance to outclass Kalighat Milan Samiti 4-1 in a Calcutta Football League (CFL) premier division tie here on Wednesday.
Japanese midfielder Katsumi Yusa, Ram Malik, Azharuddin Mallik and Pankaj Moula scored for Bagan while Sayan Dutta scored the only goal for Kalighat.
With three more points in their kitty, Bagan are now in a position where they can stake a claim for the second spot.
It was Katsumi who gave Bagan the lead in the second minute of the game. His intial shot was saved, but the Japanese followed the rebound and headed the ball in.
In the 17th minute, Kalighat equalised through Dutta, who scored off a deflection.
But Malik put Bagan back in front 10 minutes later.
In the 33rd minute, Azharuddin got onto the scoresheet for Bagan after latching to a Malik pass.
Moula scored the only goal of the second half when he latched onto a crisp pass from Malik before before finding the net with a grounder in the 65th minute.
