Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said Tuesday that the monsoon session of parliament was being extended till Sep 6 in view of the long list of pending bills.

The monsoon session which began Aug 5, was scheduled to end Aug 30.

The decision to extend the session was taken keeping in mind the long list of pending bills which the government hopes to pass during the extended period.

Parliament will not work Aug 28 due to Janmashtami holiday.

The Food Security Bill was cleared by the house Monday after long hours of debate. It now has to be cleared by the Rajya Sabha.
