Monsoon to remain subdued in Himachal, says Met office

For almost a week most of Himachal Pradesh areas have been experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall but the monsoon will now largely remain subdued in the coming week, the weather man said on Sunday.

Precipitation occurred at a few places since Saturday, but there was no appreciable change in the minimum and maximum temperatures, the official told IANS.

The weather bureau here said the towns of Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Palampur, Dharamsala, Dalhousie, Nahan and Manali recorded rainfall.

Picturesque tourist resort Dharamsala received 39.2 mm of rain, the highest in the state, while it was 30 mm in Kangra, 20.5 mm in Kasauli, six mm in Manali and 3.8 mm in Nahan.

State capital Shimla recorded just 3.6 mm of rain.

He said the state recorded 72 per cent excess rainfall from August 11 to 13.

"The monsoon will remain subdued in the region from August 15 to 19, with chances of light rains," the official added.

The state capital recorded a minimum of 16.3 degrees Celsius, while it was 16.2 degrees in Dharamsala, 13.4 degrees in Kalpa in Kinnaur district and 13.8 degrees in Manali.

A government spokesperson said Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries were in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts.
