NGOs working on social issues are now finding more volunteers, especially youths, who want to be engaged in different projects of the organisations.

"The concept of volunteerism has changed. Earlier, it was self-motivation and concept of charity. But today, we are talking about people's responsibility," Child Rights and You (CRY) regional director (East) Atindranath Das said here Wednesday.

Das was speaking on the sidelines of a consultation seminar on "Volunteering for Child Rights".

"One of the biggest changes we have experienced is that the young people are coming more for volunteerism. People from the corporate world are also volunteering with the intention to giving back to society on the back of greater awareness," he added.

Sharing her experience on engaging and working with youth volunteers, Sanlaap secretary Indrani Sinha said a lot of students were now engaged with several NGO projects.

She also highlighted some of the hurdles the organisations were facing in this regard.

Sanlaap works for women's rights, combating human trafficking and forced prostitution.
