The discussion on the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill may resume in the Rajya Sabha on July 31 after Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari holds discussions with various opposition parties seeking amendments to the Bill.
Many opposition parties on Monday opposed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill dubbing it as dilution of the state's powers and aimed at helping corporates.
The discussion is scheduled to resume on Tuesday.
Soon after the Question Hour began, Trinamool's Derek O' Brien said: "This Bill should be brought again in the Upper House on Monday and not before that," he said.
Responding to the member, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel said that various members have to bring amendments. "The Minister will hold discussions with them and then take a decision on when to resume discussion on the Bill," he said.
The Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha on April 10, 2017, was on Monday re-introduced in Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Transport Mansukhlal Mandaviya for debate and passing in the ongoing Monsoon Session.
The Bill was introduced in the Upper House in April 2017 but was referred to a select panel.
