The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress on Friday distributed free onions and pulses here to mark its protest against their soaring prices.
The party workers set up stalls and distributed onions and toor daal (pigeon peas).
Congress state president Arun Yadav said: "People are hit hard by the soaring prices this festive season. Poor and middle class people are hit most but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are silent on the issues of rising prices."
"Their silence shows that they have surrendered to the black marketeers," he added.
He said pigeon peas were being sold at Rs.140 per kilo and onions at Rs.80 a kilo.
