Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was on Thursday admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) here, before being released and advised rest, a close family aide said

Yadav has been unwell for the past few days and had taken ill on Wednesday noon after which he was briefly admitted at the SGPGI during which time some tests were conducted on him.

Sources said he is suffering from urinary infection and had gone to the super-speciality hospital for a check up. Other than routine pathological tests, the ageing SP leader was also tested for swine flu.

He was discharged late in the night but had to be rushed to the medical facility once again on Thursday.

Sources said the veteran leader complained of some discomfort and heaviness while breathing, following which the hospital authorities decided not to take any chances and admitted him once again.

Government officials remained tight-lipped about the condition of the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and refused to comment on his health status.

He was discharged again on late Thursday but has been advised "complete bed rest, light food and no travel," an official at the hospital said.

A family member told IANS that "Neta ji" had had a hectic month, first with the marriage of grand nephew Tej Pratap, and then the budget session of the parliament. He was "exhausted and tired" but was much better now.
