Former Kerala Chief Minister K. Karunakaran's son K. Muraleedharan will be fielded from the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency, Congress state unit chief Mullapally Ramachandran said on Tuesday.
"Muraleedharan's name has been sent to the party High Command which will take the final call. He is going to win easily and handsomely," said Ramachandran, who has been the Lok Sabha member from Vadakara since 2009.
The CPI-M has fielded one of its strongest candidates, P. Jayarajan.
Muraleedharan, 61, is a three-time Lok Sabha member from Kozhikode, neighbouring Vadakara. He is a sitting MLA from Vattiyoorkavu.
Kerala has 20 seats, of which the Congress will contests on 16, while the remaining four are with its three allies who have already commenced their campaign.
