A Muslim cleric Monday opposed the telecast of a Bengali TV serial based on Bangladesh author Taslima Nasreen's script which he felt could hurt the sentiments of the community.
Maulana Nurur Rahman Barkati, Shahi Imam of the Tipu Sultan Mosque here, slammed the author for indulging in "cheap publicity" through her serial "Dusahobas", that could lead to communal strife.
"She is from Bangladesh and should restrict her activities to that country. She should not do such things that could lead to communal discord here," Barkati said.
According to Nasreen, the serial will portray women in strong roles, fighting against oppression and demanding their rights.
It will be screened Monday to Saturday at 10 p.m. on Aakash Aath channel, starting Dec 19.
