Myanmar authorities have decided to build new homes for flood-hit victims as part of rehabilitation works in the country, officials said on Tuesday.

The nationwide toll from the severe flooding has risen to over 100 so far with Rakhine state being hit the worst, Xinhua news agency reported.

Nearly 1 million people were affected by flooding, which has inundated more than 539,000 hectares of farmland, the agriculture and irrigation ministry said.

According to the latest report, rising river water is also threatening to inundate southwestern Ayeyarwady delta region, the country's rice bowl.

Residents in low-lying areas in region have been urged to move to safer places as Ayeyawaddy and Ngawun rivers remained above the danger level in some four townships namely Hinthada, Nyaungdon, Zalun and Seiktha.

The flood, triggered by heavy rainfall since June, has affected 13 regions and states in Myanmar, destroying houses, farmland, railway lines, bridges and roads.

The Myanmar government on July 31 declared four disaster zones namely Rakhine, Chin, Sagaing and Magway.
