The Central Bank of Myanmar will introduce quarter tical gold coins with new design to meet high demand, the state bank said on Friday.
The portrait of late national hero and Father of the Nation of modern-day Myanmar General Aung San is engraved on the new coin, Xinhua news agency reported. His daughter is State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
The Central Bank of Myanmar has been issuing quality tical, half tical and quarter tical gold coins since 1991 with images of a ploughing farmer and an elephant hauling a log being depicted on them.
The new quarter tical gold coins could be bought at the prevailing gold rate of the day at the Myanmar Gems Enterprise sale centres in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay, said the bank.
