Continuing its policy of "naming and shaming" tax defaulters, the Income Tax department has added 18 more names to the defaulters list owing over Rs.1,100 crore.
The department had earlier issued two lists mentioning the names of 49 defaulters owing over Rs.2,000 crore.
With the new list, the total number of income tax and corporate tax defaulters has gone up to 67 and the total dues over Rs.3,100 crore.
In the new list, Mumbai-based late Uday M. Acharya and his legal heirs owe a whopping Rs.779.04 crore.
Ahmedabad-based Jashubhai Jewellers and Kalyan Jewellers owe Rs.32.13 crore and Rs.16.77 crore respectively.
