Actors Nathan Fillion and Martin Short will make a guest appearance on the popular American sitcom "Modern Family".

The show's executive producer Steve Levitan revealed the casting at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, reports variety.com.

Fillion -- whose popular crime-comedy-drama television series "Castle" was cancelled in May after eight seasons -- will play Rainer Shine, a local weatherman who becomes entangled with the Dunphy family.

Short, who is also set to appear in NBC's "Hairspray Live," will guest star in episode two of the upcoming season as promotional maven Merv Schechter.
