Nepal quake: Toll rises to nearly 900

Nearly 900 people were killed in the massive earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, officials said.

According to the Nepal police headquarters, 888 people were killed across the nation. Many people were still trapped under rubble.

As many as 268 people were killed in capital Kathmandu, 144 in Bhaktapur and 68 in Lalitpur, police said.

The quake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was in Nepal's Lamjung district, some 75 km from capital Kathmandu.
