Injeti Srinivas, an Orissa cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has been named chair of the National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority, it was announced Tuesday.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved Srinivas' appointment in the rank of additional secretary in place of C.P. Singh, who has since relinquished the post.
The institution, affiliated to the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizerss, fixes and revise the prices of controlled bulk drugs and formulations and also ensures availability of medicines in the country.
The organization is also mandated to recover amounts overcharged by manufacturers of all controlled drugs, besides monitoring the prices of decontrolled drugs in order to keep them at reasonable levels.
