New design and security features will be soon brought in for other denomination notes, Parliament was informed on Friday.
"New design banknotes in other denomination will be introduced in due course," Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
New banknotes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 with new design have recently been introduced, and have been indigenously designed to lessen the scope of counterfeiting.
"It is the first time that the design of notes is done indigenously. Earlier Rs 500 notes were all designed outside. Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes have been entirely designed in-house. So they are much more secure. Scope of counterfeiting is far far lower," Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das had earlier said
