The Congress branded the new schemes on urban rejuvenation launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday as another "event management ploy" of the government which had "repackaged" existing schemes.
"They have repackaged our schemes like Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and renamed it after Atal Bihari Vajpayee," Congress leader Ajay Maken told media persons here.
"The PM is indulging in another event management ploy," he said adding smart cities is an elitist concept.
Asserting that problems of urban infrastructure won't be solved just by creating new 100 smart cities, Maken claimed that 2,800 new census towns were made under Congress rule.
