The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Wednesday asked the Delhi government for reports following the death of two homeless.
It has called for the reports within four weeks.
"NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that two homeless people were found dead at a distance of 30 to 40 feet in the Yamuna Pusta area Jan 1," the statement said.
The commission observed the press report, if true, raises a serious question of violation of human rights of the homeless people in Delhi.
The NHRC issued notices to Delhi's chief secretary, social welfare department secretary, and the chief executive officer of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board.
"Reportedly, the night shelter is only two to three minutes' walking distance from where the bodies were recovered. However, many homeless people are turned away, as there is no space at the shelter home," added the statement.
