There is no flood-like situation in Haryana and effective steps have been taken to make things normal in areas affected by water over-flowing from the Yamuna river, a senior state government official said Saturday.
Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management, Krishna Mohan told media Saturday that the situation is normal in the districts of Yamunanagar, Karnal, Sonipat and Palwal.
"Timely and coordinated efforts by army, air force, the National Disaster Management Authority and the district administrations concerned helped the people shift to safer places.
"As many as 52 people were rescued in village Lapra of district Yamunanagar. Two villages of Palwal district had been affected but people residing in them had been rescued by the army," he said.
Mohan said that water level in Yamuna river had also receded in the last three days.
Authorities in the state had released over eight lakh cusecs of water last Monday from the Hathinikund barrage in Yamunanagar district following heavy rain and cloudbursts in neighbouring Uttarakhand. This was preceded by release of over 4.7 lakh cusecs of water a day earlier.
Mohan said that about 30-35 villages in Yamunanagar, 20 villages in Panipat, 40 villages in Karnal and two villages of Palwal district had been affected due to heavy rains in recent days.
He said that mainly crops of fruits and vegetable had been damaged and compensation would soon be provided to the farmers.
