Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday took a dig at the BJP government in the state, saying there has been "no government control in Haryana in the past 11 years".

He was addressing a rally organised here by opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in memory of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal.

Though his taunt was mainly directed at the decade-long Congress rule in Haryana, in his statement he also included the one-year tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the state.

While Sukhbir Badal's Shiromani Akali Dal is sharing power with the BJP in Punjab since 2007, his party fought the 2014 Haryana assembly elections in alliance with the INLD.

"In the last 11 years, there has been no government in Haryana. When we enter Haryana from Punjab, we see broken roads, villages in bad shape, no electricity and harassment of farmers," Badal said.

"Have you ever seen any chief minister in your villages ever? In the past 11 years, have you (farmers) seen any chief minister in your grain market? In the last 11 years, the chief ministers of Haryana have only stayed in Gurgaon and New Delhi," Badal said.

He said Haryana had the maximum debt among all states in recent years.

Addressing the rally, INLD leader Abhay Chautala said the BJP governments at the Centre and in Haryana have failed on all fronts.

"The PM and chief minister are busy travelling abroad while farmers have been left to fend for themselves," Abhay Chautala said.
