Finnish technology giant Nokia Tuesday named Indian-origin Rajeev Suri as its chief executive officer (CEO).
Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa said he believed that Suri, the new president and CEO, was "the right person to lead the company forward".
"Suri has a proven ability to create strategic clarity, drive innovation and growth, ensure disciplined execution, and deliver results," Xinhua quoted Siilasmaa as saying.
Suri would take office May 1 and Siilasmaa would continue as chairman, Nokia said in a statement.
Suri was born in 1967 in India and joined Nokia group in 1995. He held a wide range of leadership positions between then and 2007.
He has been CEO of Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) since 2009.
During his tenure as CEO, NSN's business went through a radical transformation.
