Nominations end, 38 candidates in the fray in Ghaziabad

A total of 38 contestants, including Raj Babbar of the Congress, General V.K. Singh of the BJP, Shazia Ilmi of the AAP, Mukul Upadhyay of the BSP and Sudhan Rawat of the Samajwadi Party have filed their nominations for the Ghaziabad parliamentary seat.

Three contestants filed their nomination papers Thursday, nine submitted their documents Friday while 26 presented their personal details to Assistant Returning Officer Keshav Kumar at the Ghaziabad collectorate Saturday.

Raj Babbar, 63, in his affidavit, revealed he and his spouse, Nadira, own movable property worth Rs.61,243,133.78 and Rs.3,0,770,557.69 respectively. Regarding immovable property, he owns a property valued at Rs.74,644,015 and his wife owns properties valued at Rs.30,576,245.

Raj Babbar gave his address as 94, Ellora Enclave, Dayal Bagh, Agra. Regarding a criminal record, he said he is facing a criminal case under sections 420, 468, 471, 406, 477A, 200 and 120 B for which he had obtained a stay on the proceedings.

General V.K. Singh, 62, had shown his annual income at Rs.540,000. He mentioned two criminal cases registered against him and a defamation case in which a Delhi court granted him bail.

He also mentioned cash in hand and in bank, jewellery, two weapons and a car valued at Rs.74,06,053 and movable property of Rs.29,50,991 in his wife Bharti Singh's name.

His immovable property includes agricultural land in Bhiwani, Haryana, two residential plots in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh and Panchkula, Haryana, a flat in Gurgaon, Haryana and agricultural land in his wife's name in Bajur, Uttarakhand.

Shazia Ilmi, 43, mentioned a criminal case for defamation against her in a Delhi court for which a quashing petition has been filed.

Regarding movable property, she declared cash balance of Rs.65,12,862 in fixed deposit and savings. Her spouse Shazid Malik has Rs.5,45,31,551 in his name.

Other assets are valued Rs.2,67,24,702 as also a Mercedes Benz and a yacht.

The movable assets in Malik's name are worth Rs.13,32,68,830. The immovable assets include flats and building in Delhi and Mumbai valued Rs.17,500,000 in her name while immovable property worth Rs.125,849,077 is in her husband's name.
