The National Testing Agency (NTA) made question papers more scientific through psychometric analysis and the agency has brought more transparency to the process of conducting examination, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Friday.

"This is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have better examinations, neatly conducted, flawless, transparent and user-friendly.

"Question paper setting is the key... This year NTA did a psychometric analysis of three years' question papers of various examinations. This has made question papers more scientific," Javadekar told reporters here at the NTA outreach centre in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, which he was visiting to oversee the conduct of UGC-NET exams.

This was the fourth day of the five days during which the UGC-NET is taking place at 598 centres in 91 cities across the nation, in which 9.5 lakh students are expected to participate.

UGC-NET is the first exam being conducted by the newly-established NTA. Earlier the exam used to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

To make the exam more transparent and cheating-free, the NTA has deployed "8,000 CCTV, 25,000 invigilators and 1,000 observers. Besides, and 40,000 jammers have aklso been put in place," the Minister said.

The NTA will also conduct JEE-Mains and JEE-Advanced exams next year, to be held during January 8-12 and April 8-12, respectively.
