Tibetan prime minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay Monday described the visit of US President Barack Obama to India as a reflection of renewed energy in bilateral engagement.
"I am very happy to see that the president of the US is here in India to take part and be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations," he told reporters here.
"Since America and India are the two largest democracies of the world, it's a celebration of democracy that we are witnessing today," he said.
"It's also fitting because today is the day that India promulgated its Constitution in 1950, so the president of the US to come here on this day is a reflection of renewed energy in their bilateral engagement.
"As a Tibetan, I welcome and celebrate the get-together of these two great nations," the democratically-elected leader added.
The Tibetan administration is based here in Himachal Pradesh and is not recognised by any country. Over 100,000 Tibetans live in India.
