Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday dismissed Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout over his casteist remarks.
"I strongly disapprove of anyone who makes derogatory remarks against any caste, creed or religion. I have dismissed Damodar Rout from the council of ministers. A letter has been sent this evening to the Governor to accept this dismissal," said Patnaik.
Rout drew severe criticism in last few days over his "beggar" remarks on tje Brahmin community.
Attending a function in Malkangiri on December 18, Rout had said tribals never beg even in any adverse situation while Brahmins beg for alms, if the situation arises.
The statement had triggered resentment among the Brahmin communities. They had also staged protests in Puri.
