Bhubaneswar, April 22 (IANS) One person was killed and another critically injured when a massive rock dislodged and rolled down into an opencast coal mine in Odisha's Angul district, an official said Monday.
The accident took place at Bharatpur mine of Mahanadi Coal Fields Ltd. (MCL) at Talcher, about 175 km from here, when the men were fuelling a surface miner, a machine used in mining operations, late Sunday night, MCL public relations officer Dikken Mehera told IANS.
As the rock slid, it pushed the tanker into the surface miner, crushing the driver of the surface miner, who was standing between the two machines, the public relations officer explained.
The other person injured was standing nearby. He is critically hurt, the official said.
MCL is one of eight subsidiaries of state-run Coal India.
