One killed in firing on Afghan-Pakistan border

At least one Afghan security man was killed Thursday in an exchange of fire between Afghan and Pakistani border guards along the poorly marked border, media reported.

The exchange of fire started shortly after dawn and lasted for about two hours, Zia Durrani, an Afghan police spokesman, said, Afghanistan Times.

Durrani said the two sides engaged in sporadic shooting and firing rockets across the border.

The fighting in Maroof district of Kandahar Province was sparked after Pakistani border security personel tried to construct an outpost on the Afghan side of the border, Dawakhan Minapal, an Afghan government spokesman, said.
