At least one person died and property worth lakhs was gutted in three incidents of fire in Uttar Pradesh over the last 12 hours during Diwali, police said on Friday.
A fire broke out at a plastic godown in Varanasi on Friday morning, gutting the stocks there. The godown is located in Jalpadevi area.
Four fire tenders took more than four hours to douse the flames. No loss of life was reported.
A major fire broke out in the Auraiyya fruit mart early on Friday, after some firecrackers fell on the thatched roofs. Soon the entire market was in flames, an official said. More that a dozen shops were gutted.
Another fire broke out at a nursery here on Thursday night after a firecracker fell there. The chemicals stored there caught fire in which a gardener was killed.
