Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to bring the BJP-led alliance to power in Bihar to develop the state and to stop the return of jungle raj.

"I am here to appeal to you to vote for us to develop Bihar and to stop a return of jungle raj," Modi thundered at a rally here attended by thousands.

The Bharatiya Janata Party veteran said that "jungle raj-II" will return to Bihar if his party was not voted to power.

He attacked Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar and his ally Lalu Prasad of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

"There is a strong possibility of destruction if jungle raj part-II returns to Bihar."

He blamed the years of rule of Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi for Bihar's backwardness and under development.

"When they ruled the state, hardly any development took place."

Modi recalled that he had once described the RJD as "Rozana Jungleraj ka Darr". On Sunday, he called the JD-U "Janata Ka Daman Aur Utpidan".

The prime minister promised that if the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance took power, Bihar will be out of the BIMARU tag.

"We will take Bihar out of BIMARU tag in the next five years by economic development like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan."

It was Modi's second public rally after one at Muzaffarpur last month when he kickstarted the BJP campaign for the coming Bihar assembly polls.

BJP president Amit Shah and several union ministers received Modi here when he flew in by an Indian Air Force aircraft.

According to police officials, nearly 5,000 security forces were deployed for the rally.
