A total of 607,909 people have signed up for a bicycling event on December 11 to celebrate the king's 88th birthday, which falls on December 5, an official said on Wednesday.
According to permanent secretary of Interior Ministry Krisda Boonraj, 99,999 people from Bangkok, 498,105 from other provinces and 9,805 from overseas have registered for the event "Bike for Dad", Xinhua reported.
Outside Bangkok, the largest number of registered participants was reported in Nakhon Ratchasima province, followed by provinces of Sakon Nakhon, Kanchanaburi, Songkhla and Si Sa Ket.
On the afternoon of December 11, the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead all bicyclists in Bangkok in a 29-km ride while participants in other provinces will start simultaneously.
