Over 94,000 score highest CGPA in Class 10

The CBSE Class 10 examination results were declared on Thursday. Of the 13,28,935 students who cleared the exam, 94,474 scored the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10, with 8,026 students from the national capital achieving the score.

Students of Panchkula region aced the highest CGPA score in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exam in the entire country, followed by Chennai and Patna regions.

Of the students who appeared in Panchkula region, 15,479 scored the highest CGPA.

Students from Chennai gave close competition, with 15,471 making it to the top-most grade level. In Patna, 13775 were among the highest scoring in the country.

CGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects excluding the sixth additional subject. Students have the option of taking school-based or board-based exams.

Of the total students who scored 10 CGPA, 49,392 were boys and 45,082 were girls.

The highest number of students qualifying for admission to a higher class was from Thiruvananthapuram region (99.77 percent). In Delhi, the percentage of students qualifying for the same was 96.29.

"Our students have done extremely well. A total of 581 students appeared from our school and all of them have passed. A total of 136 scored 100 percent, with which we are extremely happy," D.K. Saini, principal of Delhi Public School (R.K. Puram), told IANS.

Girls pipped boys in the results with 97.82 percent qualifying for the next class compared to 96.98 percent for the boys.

"I had prepared a lot for these exams. I am glad I could score a 10 CGPA. Social Studies needed a lot of effort in particular. The competition among fellow students was also pushing me to perform better. I'm happy the hard work finally paid off," Shravan Goyal, a student, told IANS.

A total of 7,470 Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) students scored a CGPA of 10 along with 606 government school students, 42 government-aided school students, seven students from Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA), 84,124 independent students and 2,225 students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated those who passed the examination.

"To all my young friends who passed the CBSE Class X exams- Congratulations and best wishes for the continuing academic journey," he tweeted.

There was a drop in the overall pass percentage this year -- 97.32 percent -- compared to 98.87 percent in 2014.

There were some teachers who felt that Class 10 results do not matter much.

"Although I did not teach Class 10 students in the past academic year, I think the results are really not a big deal. They are just internal exams and do not matter much," a teacher from a central Delhi school said.

The total number of registered candidates this year was 3.37 percent higher than the 2014 figure.

Some schools, however, reported troubles downloading their results hours after they were declared.

"The CBSE website has been giving a lot of trouble and we haven't been able to download all the results of our students," Sudha Singh, principal of Ryan International School in Greater Noida, told IANS.

The CBSE had introduced the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system in 2009, saying it helps improve a student's performance by identifying his/her learning difficulties at regular intervals.
