American consumer goods major Proctor & Gamble said on Friday that it is keen to set up a planning centre in Telangana that will cater to its operations in entire South Asia.

Proctor & Gamble, India, managing director A.I. Rajwani met Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Reddy here on Friday and sought the state government's cooperation in building the facility.

The proposed planning centre will initially have 50 highly skilled people and the number will be later increased to 100.

Rajwani also informed the chief minister that they would like to expand their present unit spread over 171 acres at Penjarla village in Kottur mandal of Mahabubnagar district, said a statement from the chief minister's office.

The existing unit has 786 employees and they will be increasing the number to 1,200. The company officials said 80 percent of the employees will be from Telangana.

The chief minister told the delegations that Telangana is the best state for them to invest and expand their activity. He suggested to them to have a big base in Telangana as the state has the best industrial policy.

P&G has its operations in 80 countries and its products are sold in 150 countries. Its existing facility in Telangana produces various consumer goods including fabric and home care, beauty care, oral care, baby care and feminine care products.
