Pakistan protests killing of civilian by BSF

Pakistan has lodged a protest with India over the killing of a Pakistani who entered Indian territory by mistake and urged New Delhi to refrain from "indiscriminate firing" at the border.

The foreign ministry summoned India's acting high commissioner Wednesday to lodge the protest over the killing of Touqeer by the Border Security Force (BSF) at Tashpura Post, said an official statement Thursday.

Touqeer, along with two others, was cutting grass in the border area when the three inadvertently crossed the international border.

BSF troops fired without any warning, injuring Touqeer, while the other two managed to return to Pakistan, the statement said.

Pakistan Rangers tried to take custody of the injured Pakistani but the BSF took him across the border fence. Later, he passed away in the custody of BSF troops.

The Pakistan government accused the BSF of violating border ground rules.

Another civilian, Muhammad Din, was killed by Indian troops in Rawlakot near the Line of Control (LoC) Tuesday, Pakistani officials said.

Indian authorities were reminded that when a BSF trooper inadvertently crossed into Pakistan some time back, he was treated well and returned to India safely as a gesture of goodwill.
