The Pakistan Supreme Court Thursday ordered the appointment of the chief election commissioner (CEC) by Nov 24.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk gave the direction while hearing a case about the appointment of the CEC in Islamabad Thursday, Radio Pakistan reported.

The attorney general informed the apex court that the CEC would be appointed with consensus.

Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali is serving as the acting CEC since July 3.

The CEC serves a tenure of three years.
