A high powered committee (HPC), headed by Orissa High Court's former chief justice Bilal Nazki, has been set up to review the functioning of the Haj Committee of India and its state units, said an official statement Thursday.
According to the statement, the four member panel, which also comprises former Indian envoy to Saudi Arabia Ishrat Aziz, Congress leader Begum Noor Bano and Bombay Mercantile Cooperative Bank director Mehmood Ur Rahman, will consider suggestions or grievances made by state Haj Committees with a view to improve their performance.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid Wednesday briefed the panel, which has been asked to submit its report in ten months.
