Parliament resolution to condemn intolerance accepted: CPI-M

CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said on Wednesday that a resolution he wants parliament to pass against intolerance and communal polarization has been accepted.

Yechury said he submitted the one-line resolution to Rajya Sabha chairperson Hamid Ansari, and it had been accepted.

"The house should pass a resolution to condemn growing intolerance. We call upon the union government to implement the law of the land to ensure hate speeches and polarization are put to an end," the Rajya Sabha MP said after attending an all-party meeting in the parliament complex.

"The government has said they are prepared for a resolution which everybody accepts. If they accept it, then we have no issues. It depends on the attitude of the government.

"We will also raise the issues of price rise, high prices of pulses, Swachh Bharat cess, oil prices, decrease in industrial production, agricultural issues and farmers' suicides during the winter session of parliament. We've also proposed a new law for social justice," he said.

On the GST bill, the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader said all state governments should be taken into confidence before the government gets it passed in parliament.

"If you get it passed without involving them, it would be of no use."

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sharad Yadav meanwhile said he wanted to raise the issue of Nepal-India relations in parliament.

"Ever since this government has come to power, relations with Nepal have gone bad... There should be a discussion on it."

Yadav said the opposition wanted parliament to function but "much would depend on the treasury benches".
