Parliament will soon have a research wing of its own to provide information and facts on many issues to the members, it was announced here on Wednesday.
A decision to set up the Speaker's Research Initiative came after many first-time MPs told Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan that they needed more information on certain issues which were being debated in the house.
Lok Sabha Secretary General Anoop Mishra told reporters: "Keeping in view the requirements of the members, it has been felt that high-quality research inputs on important matters of diverse nature should be provided to them for proper understanding of the issues under consideration."
The initiative will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
To implement the idea, Mahajan has constituted a core group to provide balanced inputs and information in the form of backgrounders that were prepared for the members.
