Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has directed the armed forces to provide all assistance in the rescue operations underway at the site of the under-construction flyover's collapse in Kolkata.
Defence ministry spokesperson Nitin Wakankar said Parrikar expressed "shock" over the collapse of the portion of the flyover on Vivekananda Road here, and condoled the loss of 14 lives.
The spokesperson said army columns had been pressed into service and nearly 10 ambulances and medics rushed to the spot.
The rescue operation will continue through the night.
