Taking a dig at the American obsession for power, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said that it increases with restraint and if one uses power often like Americans do, it does not help much.
"Power enhances with restraint. You should not use power when you have it. If you use it too often like Americans do, I think it does not enhance, it depletes," Parrikar said, while underlining the importance of strategic power, during the inauguration ceremony of a new Indian Institute of Technology in Goa.
"Power enhances with restraint and education enhances with politeness. I think these are two factors which need to be kept," he advised the first batch of students at the new IIT.
A former alumnus of IIT-Mumbai, Parrikar is the first chief minister in the country to have an IIT background.
