Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday announced interim assistance of Rs.1,000 crore each for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for relief and rehabilitation after they were hit by cyclone Phailin last month.
"The total quantum of assistance to the states will be finalised after consideration of the on-the spot assessment report of the inter-ministerial central team," said a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
Besides, an ex gratia of Rs.200,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the seriously injured people have been sanctioned from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
A delegation led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy Saturday called on the prime minister and presented a memorandum regarding the losses suffered due to the cyclone and the subsequent heavy rains and floods in the state.
