PM has understood nation's mood: BJP

Referring to the Jan 8 killing of two soldiers by Pakistanis on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said Manmohan Singh's "most important statement" was that there could no more business as usual with Islamabad.

She said the incident was "so barbaric" that the prime minister had "understood the mood of the country".

"I felt happy, even if it is late, the prime minister has understood the mood of the nation and what the opposition had talked about," she said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader said she spoke to National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon a day after the soldiers were killed by Pakistani troops.

The prime minister had also deputed Menon to brief the leaders of opposition in parliament - Sushma and Arun Jaitley - on the situation. The prime minister had also spoken to the two leaders Monday.

Swaraj said during their meeting with Menon, they had conveyed to him that protests and displeasure was fine, but the government should understand the anger of the nation and sought tough measures against Pakistan.

She had said Monday that India should get "10 heads from Pakistan" if they don't return the head of the slain Indian soldier Lance Naik Hemraj Singh.

Manmohan Singh on Tuesday declared that "there can be no business as usual" with Pakistan "after the barbaric act," and that those who brutally killed two Indian soldiers will be brought to book.
