Pakistan's Sindh province government on Wednesday suspended its police chief over the bus attack in the provincial capital Karachi that left 45 people dead and 20 injured, but reinstated him shortly.
Dunya TV said that Inspector General of Police Ghulam Haider Jamali was removed from his post for negligence of duty which resulted in a big terrorist attack in the city in broad daylight.
However, the government reversed its decision and reinstated Haider so he could continue with the investigations into the incident.
The attack happened in Safoora Chowrangi, when six terrorists, clad in police uniforms, stopped a passenger van carrying minority Ismaili Shia Muslims.
The terrorists killed 45 people but the police were nowhere to be seen during the entire incident.
The police only arrived on scene after the terrorists had fled the scene on their motorbikes.
The decision to remove the police chief was taken by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah shortly after visiting the area where the attack took place.
Meanwhile, the deputy superintendent police and station house officer of the area were suspended.
The chief minister said that the government would find out whether the bus had security, and if it had not, whether the Ismaili community had asked for it or not, adding that if there was any security lapse, it would be investigated and the concerned officials would be dealt with a heavy hand.
